Enroll at the University of Hawaiʻi

To take a distance learning course or enter a distance learning program, you need submit a System Application Form and apply to the campus at which you plan to earn your degree. This campus will be considered your home campus. For more information go to the Admissions Overview website.

Tuition & Fees

The cost of taking a distance learning course is the same as if you take a face-to-face course. Students are responsible for student fees associated with the campus offering the course (host campus). Some campuses will charge fees for distance learning courses. For more information check the fee schedule for each campus.

Financial Aid

Once you have been admitted, contact the financial aid office at your home campus to find out what additional types of financial assistance may be available and what the application procedures and deadlines are.

If you are receiving financial aid and would like to use it for a distance learning class offered by another campus, inform the financial aid office at your home campus before you register.

Activate your UH Email Account

Most online services offered by University of Hawaiʻi requires a student to have a UH Email Account. Once you have been accepted as a University of Hawaiʻi student, you are assigned a free UH Username. Instructions for activating your UH Email Account are available on the Information Technology Services UH Email Account Practices website.

Academic Advising

The University of Hawaiʻi schools and colleges offer a large range of academic advising services. Students are encouraged to contact their specific school or college, from which they expect to earn their degree, to find out more about the advising services are available to them. Or you can contact the Education Center in your area for distance learning assistance.


Review the Degree Programs and/or Course Listing to select the offerings that best suit your needs. UH Mānoa, UH Hilo and UH West Oʻahu campuses require an application for admission and acceptance prior to registration. For UH Mānoa Outreach College classes, current UH system students may register without submitting an Outreach College application. In addition, an application is not required of current UH Mānoa, UH Hilo, and UH West Oʻahu students who wish to register for lower-division UH Community College classes.

Registering for a distance learning class is similar to registering for a face-to-face class. Registration for all UH system classes is done via the MyUH Portal.

Book Ordering

Booklist information is available three weeks before classes begin at the host campus bookstore website.

Books may be purchased through the host campus bookstore by one of the following options:

  • In person at the host campus bookstore
  • Order online at the host campus bookstore website. When you order online, you will have the option of having the books mailed to your home or book pick-up at the host campus bookstore. Book pick-up ordering available before Spring and Fall semester classes begin at specified times. Check bookstore website for information. Pick-up option will be removed from the website the Wednesday before school starts.
  • Order books through the UH Mānoa Bookstore Ecommerce Department at 1-800-UHBOOKS (1-800-842-6657). This option is for those unable to purchase online or travel to the host campus bookstore. Orders received will be forwarded on to the respective campus' bookstore for order processing. Please have your course information and your credit card available when you call.


  • New and used textbooks are priced as listed on the home campus bookstore website. Used textbooks (when available) are priced 25% less than new textbooks.
  • No sales tax is added to your order.
  • Shipping policies are listed on the home campus bookstore website.
  • Additional shipping charges will incur if you are taking classes from more than one campus.

Return Books

Return books will be sent back to the appropriate home campus bookstore for refund. Normal refund policies, found on the home campus website will apply.


  • All UH bookstores utilize a consolidated buyer's guide and students may sell their used books at the nearest campus bookstore.
  • Buyback schedules vary at each campus bookstore. It is recommended students check what the dates and times at the nearest campus bookstore.
