Cohort 1 Preparing for Spring 2025

The following is intended for faculty and staff at Cohort 1 campuses (UHCCs, UH Hilo)
All courses at the UH Community Colleges and UH Hilo will be offered in Lamakū in Spring 2025. Faculty and staff at Cohort 1 campuses have been provisioned with a Lamakū user account. Teaching faculty have been provisioned with one sandbox.
  • Requestor must be a UH faculty or staff
  • Limit 5 sandboxes per requestor
  • Sandbox FAQ
  • Requestor must be a UH faculty or staff
  • Departmental Account allows departments to have a department site. The site is live and is not a sandbox.
    • For departmental collaborative project sites (such as professional development; training for faculty, staff, and students; orientations; assessment/placement tests)
    • Lamakū is not intended to serve as a long-term storage or repository for files.
      • An LMS retention practice is currently being developed that will limit access to Lamakū sites for a specified period of time.
  • Deadline to request content migration for Spring 2025 courses is December 31, 2024
  • Request must be submitted by a UH faculty or staff
  • We are prioritizing the migration of academic courses offered in Spring 2025 first.
    • Academic course migration requests should be submitted by teaching faculty (instructor of record for the course). A CRN with the requesting faculty member's name must be assigned in Banner for Spring 2025.
      • A separate migration request form must be submitted for each course for which the faculty member requests migration. If multiple sections of the same course alpha and number (e.g., ENG 100) are being taught in the same format (e.g., 16 weeks), then only one migration of content for ENG 100 migrated from Laulima should be requested. The same Laulima reference site with the migrated content for the course can be copied into multiple sections of the course in Lamakū.
  • Collaborative project sites used for Professional Development and Training offered in Spring 2025 will also be accepted.
  • Collaborative project sites (non-instructional) - once Spring 2025 courses and training/PD sites have been processed, non-instructional collaborative project sites will be accepted. This is anticipated to begin in January 2025.
    • Please note: Lamakū is not intended to serve as a long-term storage or repository for files (such as file storage/transfer, committee work, research sites). Therefore Laulima collaborative project sites used for repository should move to alternate solutions as soon as possible such as Google Drive or Drop Box if there is sensitive data.
  • Migrated content will appear in the requestor's Lamakū account as a Laulima reference sandbox site.
    • Laulima Reference Sites for Spring 2025 courses in Lamakū are temporary sites and will be deleted from Lamakū in Summer 2025.
    • Laulima Reference sites will only contain course content and materials and will not include any student data from the reference course sites in Laulima.
  • Student user accounts will be created as students register for Spring 2025 courses at UHCCs and UH Hilo.
  • Migration FAQs
  • Request must be submitted by a UH faculty (instructor of record for the course)
  • To have two (or more CRNs) merged or cross-listed into one Lamakū live course site.

Lamakū Discovery Series

Fall 2024 Lamakū Discovery Series

The fall 2024 Discovery Series, hosted by the UH ID PLC, focused on essential features of Lamakū (Brightspace by D2L) for faculty new to the learning management system. Topics followed the flow of building a course, such as content development, activity and assessment and gradebook setup. Each session will be themed and include both demonstration and "discovery" (exploration) time. You may find the recorded sessions and presentation slides listed below:
