Migration Timeline

As part of the University of Hawaiʻi's commitment to advancing teaching and learning through modern, secure, and student-centered technology, Laulima, the University's legacy learning management system (LMS), is officially reaching its end of life.
Effective Fall 2025, all courses and instructional activities will transition to Lamakū, the University of Hawaiiʻs new enterprise learning management system powered by D2L Brightspace.
While Laulima will no longer be used for active course delivery, faculty and staff will continue to have direct access to previous course content following the LMS Retention Practice Standard Operating Procedure. Please note that no new course or project sites will be created in Laulima after this transition. This includes no further extensions to continue active use of Laulima sites.
All instructional activity moving forward, including course delivery, student engagement, and academic collaboration, will be conducted in Lamakū.
To support this transition, ITS is providing Laulima site migration support according to the following guidelines and schedule.

Migration Guidelines

  1. All migration requests are to be made using the Request Migration from Laulima to Lamakū Kuali Build form (one migration per form).
  2. If the requesting faculty is not the owner of the Laulima course site, the owner of the Laulima course site must approve use and add the Requestor as faculty on the Laulima course site before it can be migrated over to Lamakū.
  3. Only one Laulima site will be migrated for each course alpha number in the same format (i.e. 16 weeks, online asynchronous, writing intensive). This migration can be used for all sections of the course in the same format.
  4. Please request migration once all content has been added to the Laulima site. ITS cannot add more content or re-migrate a site that has already been migrated.
Important to Know:
  • ITS uses a migration tool that migrates content found in the following Laulima tools: Announcements, Assignments, Assignments, Tests and Surveys, Discussions, Lessons, Resources, Rubrics, Syllabus, Test & Quizzes. Note: If you are using the ATS (Assignments, Tests, and Surveys) tool in Laulima or have question pools please review the Importing ATS Assessments into Lamakū tutorial before submitting your migration request.
  • The following will not migrate over to Lamakū: Overview, Attendance, Calendar, Chat Room, Clog, Commons, Dashboard, Discussion and Private Messages, Drop Box, Email, Email Archive, Gradebook, Gradebook Classic, i>clicker, Meetings, Messages, *Modules, News, Podcasts, Polls, PostEm, Roster, Section Info, Sign-up, Site info, Statistics, Web Content, Wiki. *Note: The following instructions will provide an alternative solution for exporting Modules and importing them into Lamakū Exporting Modules for Laulima and Importing to Lamakū tutorial. Faculty will need to rebuild content using equivalent tools in Lamakū (refer to: Laulima->Lamakū Crosswalk)
