- Lamakū is inappropriate for disseminating information or for document and repository use (such as file storage/transfer, committee work, research sites, meeting notes, accessing forms, dissemination of information, etc.). Google drive storage will serve this purpose, or Drop Box if there is sensitive data.[Ref: LMS retention practice standard operating procedures]
Guest User Account
- Requests must be submitted by a UH faculty or staff.
- This process allows a non-UH participant (person without a UH username or password) to have a temporary Lamakū user account, but does not grant the user their own site.
- Examples of non-UH participation include, but not limited to:
- Enrollment in non-credit course
- External Collaborator
- External Reviewer
- Guest Presenter/Speaker
- Participating in Senior Visitor/Kūpuna Program
- Examples of non-UH participation include, but not limited to:
- Guest user accounts are not for provisioning a Lamakū user account for a new hire who is currently onboarding and have not yet obtain a UH username and email account (please consult department's HR specialist to request a temporary affiliation UH account to ITS for the new hire currently onboarding instead).

Migration
- Request to migrate course site content from Laulima to Lamakū must comply with the following guidelines
- Request must be submitted by a UH Faculty or Staff
- If the requestor is not the owner of the Laulima course site, the owner of the Laulima course site must approve use and add the Requestor as faculty/maintainer on the Laulima course site before it can be migrated over to Lamakū.
- Submit one migration request per form
- Only one Laulima site will be migrated for each course alpha number in the same format (i.e. 16 weeks, online asynchronous, writing intensive). This migration can be used for all sections of the course in the same format.
- Please request migration once all content has been added to the Laulima site. ITS cannot add more content or re-migrate a site that has already been migrated.
- Please note: ITS uses a migration tool that migrates content found in the following Laulima tools: Announcements, Assignments, Assignments, Tests and Surveys, Discussions, Lessons, Resources, Rubrics, Syllabus, Test & Quizzes. Note: If you are using the ATS (Assignments, Tests, and Surveys) tool in Laulima or have question pools please review the Importing ATS Assessments into Lamakū tutorial before submitting your migration request.
- The following will not migrate over to Lamakū: Overview, Attendance, Calendar, Chat Room, Clog, Commons, Dashboard, Discussion and Private Messages, Drop Box, Email, Email Archive, Gradebook, Gradebook Classic, i>clicker, Meetings, Messages, *Modules, News, Podcasts, Polls, PostEm, Roster, Section Info, Sign-up, Site info, Statistics, Web Content, Wiki.
- *Note: The following instructions will provide an alternative solution for exporting Modules and importing them into Lamakū Exporting Modules for Laulima and Importing to Lamakū tutorial. Faculty will need to rebuild content using equivalent tools in Lamakū (refer to: Laulima->Lamakū Crosswalk)
- Important: Laulima to Lamakū migration services will be discontinued after July 31, 2026. Please see Migration Timeline for further information.
Sandbox
- Requestor must be a UH faculty or staff
- Limit 3 sandboxes per requestor
- Exception: Graduate students assigned to teach a class and need to request a sandbox to develop a course, can request a sandbox (quantity allowable based on number of assigned CRNs in Banner for the term, but not to exceed 5 sandboxes)
- One of the following is required prior to submitting a request form.
- CRN and faculty assignment of the graduate student must be present in Banner
- An email to uhdl@hawaii.edu from the Department Chair confirming the Graduate Student's teaching assignment. The email should include:
- Graduate Student name
- Course Information: Course Alpha/Number
- Term/Semester
- CRN
- One of the following is required prior to submitting a request form.

Non-Credit Live Course Site
- Request must be submitted by the Program Coordinator or Faculty member
- Non-credit course sites are sites not associated with a Course Record Number (CRN).
- Lamakū course sites can be used for
- Non-credit continuing education courses
- Non-credit career and technical programs
- Non-credit micro-credentials
- Certificate programs not integrated with a student information system such as Banner or Modern Campus Destiny One.
- Please review the Non-Credit Course Site section of the LMS Course Site Status standard operating procedures before submitting form.
Non-Academic Live Course Site
- Request must be submitted by a UH Faculty or staff.
- Non-academic course sites are sites not associated with a Course Record Number (CRN).
- Examples of non-academic course sites include, but are not limited to,
- Professional development training sites for faculty and staff
- Sites used for student placement exams
- Sites used for student orientation
- LMS sites used by a departmental account
- Please review the Non-academic Site section of the LMS Course Site Status standard operating procedures before submitting form.
- Note: Lamakū is inappropriate for disseminating information or for document and repository use (such as file storage/transfer, committee work, research sites, meeting notes, accessing forms, dissemination of information, etc.). Google drive storage will serve this purpose, or Drop Box if there is sensitive data.
- Appropriate uses of the non-academic site for collaboration should utilize Lamakū "activities" such as Discussions, Polls, Assignments, Quizzes, in some capacity. The LMS retention practice standard operating procedures state the limitation of access to Laulima and Lamakū sites for a specified period of time
Cross-List
- Request must be submitted by teaching faculty (instructor of record for the course)
- This process allows to have two (or more CRNs) merged or cross-listed into one Lamakū live course site.
- Important: Cross-list requests must be received and processed before student work has been submitted as any student work is in jeopardy of being lost if sections are cross-listed after student work has been submitted.
Course Site Reset
- A course site request will erase all data in the site and set it back to defaults.
- Requests must be submitted by a UH Faculty or staff.
- Course site includes
- Academic (CRN)
- Non-Academic
- Non-Credit
- Sandbox
- Once a course site is reset, it is not possible to recover any content.
Site Self-Enrollment (Discover)
- Requestor must be a UH Faculty or Staff who serve as an instructor or facilitator of a non-academic site.
- Discover tool allows users to search for "discoverable" active non-academic sites and allow Lamakū users to self-enroll and self-unenroll.
- Examples of use cases include course starter templates for instructors and non-academic sites such as professional development training sites for employees, or orientations and placement exam sites for students.
- Permissible course sites must meet the following requirements
- Course site must be free of tuition or fees related to enrollment
- Course site accepts self-enrollments and self-unenrollments on a rolling basis
- Course site is subject of the LMS Retention Practice as a non-academic site
