Description
The MEd in Counseling with a concentration in School Counseling is an online program that prepares candidates to work with students PreK-12. Candidates will develop comprehensive knowledge of the counseling profession, including its history, structure, and theories. They will learn to apply evidence-based strategies tailored to students' diverse needs, utilize multiple data points for assessment, and implement comprehensive programs prioritizing equity and cultural competence.
The program emphasizes the development of skills in collecting and communicating outcome measures, conducting ethical and culturally responsive services, and maintaining high professional standards. School counseling candidates will learn to advocate for students, promote human development, and collaborate with families and agencies to foster systemic change and quality services.
Through a combination of rigorous online coursework, supervised practicum, and internship experiences, students will gain the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to address the academic, career, and social/emotional needs of all students. This online format offers flexibility for working professionals while ensuring thorough preparation for a career in school counseling. Attendance Information
All coursework is delivered online. Synchronous online classes are typically held one evening per week from 4:00 PM – 6:45 PM HST. Students should be prepared to attend these virtual sessions regularly. The program requires attendance at two in-person orientations, one at the start and one at the end of the program. Additionally, the program includes off-campus Practicum and Internship experiences that require students to work in-person at PreK-12 school settings.
