Description
This Interdisciplinary Studies BA in Social Sciences of Oceans is a fully online degree designed to offer students training in social science approaches to addressing complex problems related to our oceans and island societies. Major required upper division courses span across seven departments in the College of Social Sciences at the University of Hawaiʻi - Mānoa, including Anthropology, Economics, Ethnic Studies, Geography and Environment, Political Science, Sociology, Urban and Regional Planning and the Center for Pacific Island Studies.
This online degree program offers students interdisciplinary approaches to studying issues of global importance, such as governance and nationhood; identity and inequality; resource management and development; and the movements of peoples and cultural forms. Taking our location in the middle of the Pacific seriously, the program centers Oceania and the voices of Pacific Islanders.
Designed for working adults, this accelerated online BA degree is offered in five week segments. This program is flexible and focused. If you have prior college credits equivalent to an AA degree, you will earn this online Bachelor of Arts degree in less than two-and-a-half years.
As an option for students with no college credits, the College of Social Sciences Aloha Pathways Online program allows a student to complete the first two years of general education requirements online through a partnership with the Leeward Community College. The program allows students to smoothly transfer into the BA program at UHM and complete the major requirements. Qualifying students can have dual admissions and dual enrollment with UHM through the UH Kaʻieʻie Program.
