Program Description

This certificate is a competency based training program designed to meet the needs of Hawaiʻi's diverse students, with a focus on addressing the needs of students eligible for special education. The 6-course certificate will prepare you to work inclusively! The SpEd/Inclusive Education Certificate of Competence does not lead to teacher licensure. However, it can serve as a springboard for earning your Associate in Arts in Teaching at Leeward CC to become a highly qualified para-educator. We also have course articulation agreements with the Education Programs at UH Mānoa, UH West Oʻahu, and Chaminade University if you choose to transfer these credits to a 4-year degree granting university. The Special/Inclusive Education Certificate coursework can also be used as academic credits for current HDOE teachers to apply towards teacher reclassification (pay step increase). (6 credits)
