The AI Explorer badge is designed for UH faculty and staff who are interested in exploring AI tools and integrating them into online teaching and learning—whether they’re just starting out or already incorporating them. Badge earners will attend at least one UH professional development (PD) opportunity (e.g. webinar, course, training, etc.) or review archived webinar recordings, create/revise a product to improve teaching, learning, or productivity, and share their experiences with the UH community. Review the infographic below for a summary of the progressive milestones, which will be documented via the completion of a Badge Action Plan template.

The AI Explorer badge is designed for UH faculty and staff who are interested in exploring AI tools and integrating them into online teaching and learning—whether they’re just starting out or already incorporating them. Badge earners will have the opportunity to deepen their AI knowledge, refine their current practices, and contribute insights to the broader UH community. Participants will attend (or review) at least one UHOIC-hosted AI-focused webinar, create/revise a product to improve teaching, learning, or productivity, and share their experiences with the UH community. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I earn the badge if I already integrated AI into my online teaching and learning?

Yes, we also encourage interested faculty and staff who already integrate AI into their online teaching and learning to earn the badge. They will still need to complete the action plan as the initial milestones may provide additional insights that inspire iterative changes to current practices.

I signed up for the opportunity during the '23-'24 academic year but missed the original deadline for completing the action plan. Can I submit the action plan if I am still interested in completing it?

Yes, please feel free to continue working on and submitting a completed action plan if you were unable to do so during the ’23-’24 academic year due to a busy semester. Summer is a great time to work on any milestones you may have started.

Why is the AI Explorer badge opportunity opening in the fall and not the summer?

The upcoming LMS transition pilot will be a busy summer for many UH faculty and staff, including the UHOIC. As such, the opportunity is being offered beginning in the fall semester to allow us to iterate on the badge opportunity based on feedback from participants in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Can I start working on the milestones even though the opportunity doesn't open until the fall?

Yes, feel free to start working on the milestones early by referencing the AI Explorer Action Plan Template (PDF) for more information. Please note that you will not receive AI Explorer Badge communications until the opportunity starts in the fall.
