Dorothy So Hirata
Instructional Design Manager
Dorothy is the Instructional Design Manager for the University of Hawaiʻi (UH) system in the Information Technology Services Online Learning division. She leads the instructional design team and works cross functionally with diverse faculty and staff to support quality online learning initiatives across the three universities and seven community colleges. She also serves as an adjunct online lecturer for the UH Mānoa College of Education’s Learning Design and Technology Department.
Prior to UH
Before joining the University of Hawaiʻi, Dorothy worked for 15+ years at Kamehameha Schools, a private school dedicated to serving Native Hawaiian learners. She advocated, planned, developed and supported online and blending learning programs and initiatives in a K-12 environment with the desire to transform education for a global community of learners. Dorothy obtained three degrees from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa: a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction (emphasis in online learning), M.Ed. in Educational Technology, and a B.Ed. in Secondary Education.

Besides enjoying spending time with her family, Dorothy also coaches young swimmers to succeed in competitive swimming while building valuable life skills.
