Integrating AI into Curriculum
In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, generative artificial intelligence (AI) has become ubiquitous, transforming industries from healthcare to finance and beyond. As AI reshapes the professional world, employers increasingly demand candidates with foundational AI skills across all disciplines. UH must ensure every student—regardless of major or career path—can access this crucial knowledge. By equipping students with the ability to understand, leverage, and contribute to responsible AI use, UH fulfills its educational mission in two critical ways: preparing graduates for AI-integrated careers and fostering ethical awareness of AI’s societal implications. This preparation is essential for students who will navigate an AI-driven future where such competencies are fundamental to professional success.
Many faculty across disciplines have begun incorporating elements of AI in their courses. To broaden these efforts and ensure that all students have access to learning opportunities around AI, faculty are invited to develop and integrate an assignment related to AI into one of their courses.
The Invitation
Full-time faculty are invited to submit a brief proposal that identifies the relevant course, outline the concept of the assignment, and explain how the assignment meets the learning outcomes. Both new assignments and revisions to existing ones will be considered.
Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Stipend Opportunity
$1,000 stipends will be awarded for selected proposals with work to be done during summer 2025. To receive the stipend, the new and/or revised assignment(s) must be:
- Integrated into the identified course during Fall 2025.
- Shared with your department/college and the wider UH community (e.g. UH Online Innovation Center website).
- A course syllabus containing the description of the AI-related assignment is to be submitted to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Strategy (OVPAS) by August 11, 2025.
Proposal Submission Deadline: Friday, May 16, 2025.
