ADA Compliance
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation act of 1973-section 504 and 508, individuals with disabilities have protections against discrimination and are assured access to programs, services and activities.
Ensuring compliance with ADA requirements remains essential and legally mandated. Improving access to online education means, among other things, ensuring that online course material, teaching and learning activities, and assessments are accessible for all learners. The addition of multimedia to course designs complicates the issues of ensuring that students with disabilities are accommodated. ADA compliance affects videos, audio, PDFs, graphics, images, synchronous webcasts, lecture capture, among other components and must be included from the design phase of the course.
The University of Hawaiʻi is committed to providing accommodations to ensure students with disabilities equal access to education.
